My Story
I'm taking part in the Welsh 3000s Challenge for St David's Hospice on Saturday 11th September!
I'll be summiting 15 mountains over 3000 ft in Snowdonia within the space of 24 hours. (hopefully!) It involves about 30 miles walking and about 13000ft of assent. It is a trip I have done before a few times, but I suspect this will be my last as I will be 77 years old at the time of the Challenge.
As many of you know Caroline, my wife was cared for so well at St David's Hospice during the latter part of her all too short life. I will of course be for ever grateful for the wonderful care she received and doing the Welsh 3000's once again seemed to be an ideal way to help fundraising for the Hospice who of course are going through a very hard time at present with many of their activities curtailed because of the Covid restrictions
Hopefully somebody from the fundraising team will meet us all at the end of the trip with a large glass of red wine although my sister Pat has suggested a stretcher might be more appropriate! It is entirely possible that I may be by far the oldest participant so I reckon I deserve a glass of red!
The event can be split into three sections or mountain ranges with their associated summits:
Snowdon: Crib Goch, Carnedd Ugain, Snowdon.
Glyderau: Elidir Fawr, Y Garn, Glyder Fawr, Glyder Fach, Tryfan
Carneddau: Pen yr Ole Wen, Carnedd Dafydd, Carnedd Llewelyn, Yr Elen, Foel Grach, Carnedd Gwenllian, Foel Fras
I will update this from time to time as training progresses.
Thank you so much if you have donated, it is very much appreciated.
