Fundraising as part of team: Ras Y Gader 2023

My Story

My best friend's father sadly passed away last October after a long battle with cancer. He was a very kind and generous man who would always help those in need whether he knew them or not. I hope that he would appreciate this being done in memory of his name and would be proud of the fact that the money raised will go towards helping others.

He was looked after by the local palliative care team (hospice at home) and district nurses in Dolgellau and they went out of their way to support him and make his last moments as comfortable as possible. They also did an incredible job supporting the whole family in those difficult times. I wanted to show my appreciation for the work that they do and raise money for a locally-based charity that probably doesn't get as much funding and exposure as nationwide cancer organisations.

I thought running Ras y Gader would make the perfect background for this fundraiser. Okay, so I do run on regular basis but not quite like this! :-)

I have never taken part in a race (well, except for a 5k Race for Life, 11 years ago, back in Southampton Common, where the elevation was about 3 feet...). Cader Idris is 893m (2930ft) tall and Dolgellau is pretty much at sea level. The race is only 10.5 miles long but, as it summits, it's pretty much just UP and then just DOWN.

Even according to the race's official website it is one of the toughest fell races in Wales not only due to the elevation but also the everchanging terrain which can be very difficult to run on.

Please donate generously so that this amazing charity can continue its incredible work and make difference to people's lives.

And, of course also to give me the necessary kick up the bum to get up that hill!
